Biography
After having completed my pharmaceutical studies (Graz, Austria), I had the opportunity to realize my PhD in an Austrian-French collaboration (Montpellier, France) dealing with the synthesis and vectorization of PNA (peptide nucleic acids). During my post-doc, I acquired experience on pharmaceutical relevant peptides. In 2001, I joined CNRS, the French center for scientific research, to create a peptide synthesis facility, first at CRBM (Centre de Recherche en Biochimie Macromoléculaire, Montpellier, France) and since 2015 at Sys2Diag, a private-CNRS research structure for the development of medical diagnostics. During all the time, I worked and I am still working on the optimization of peptide vectors in terms of solubility, stability and membrane permeation properties.
Research Topics
As a Pharmacist, almost all my research projects are related to diseases, their understanding and the way to cure them. Peptides are valuable tools to understand protein structures and interactions. They can inhibit or activate protein-protein interactions and they are able to transport and deliver biologically active molecules. During my research work, I had the opportunity to get an insight into a variety of diseases, including cancer, AIDS, diabetes, Alzheimer, Huntington’s and Creutzfeldt Jakob disease and even injuries caused by spider venoms.
